Thin section bearings are bearings with very small ring cross-sections that can be used to save installation space and weight. They are based on bearings of series 617/618 and 619.. and are also available with a flanged outer ring and in a non-corrosive version.
Thin section bearings with a split inner ring and split outer ring are ball bearings with an extremely small, rectangular ring cross-section. This cross-section remains constant within each series even for larger diameters of the shaft and housing bore.
As a result, a larger cross-section can be gradually chosen and thus a ball bearing with a higher load capacity can be used without having to modify the shaft diameter.
Due to the split inner and outer rings, a plastic strip cage guided by the rolling elements and containing more and larger balls can be used. The contact angle of the bearing is 90 degrees and allows the support of axial and radial loads.
The bearings are suitable wherever high revolutions are not a priority and the tolerances of H//h/7 for the housing and shaft can be maintained.
